what does it mean if smoke comes out of the oil place

  1. Combustion is leaking around the piston walls past your rings. The engine is bad. Sorry, you need a new lawn mower.


  2. Seems to me that you might have a bad set of piston rings.

  3. Maybe you need some more oil. Do not overfill it.

  4. It could be low on oil, over heating or you had the mower tipped.  Oil vapor can come from many places then.  Check the oil level & add if needed.  Then keep an eye on it to see how much you're using.  It's always a good idea to check it every time anyway, but most of us don't.

  5. I have no idea why someone would bother answering your question by calling you an idiot.  Some people should get a job.  Anyway, some smoke/vapor will come out of the dipstick tube, if it is excessive, the rings are probably worn or the piston is damaged.  Another thing to check is the crankcase vent hose.  It comes out of the side of the engine and into the airfilter housing.  Make sure that tube is not plugged or blocked by something.
