Oldies, aging and golf
A common question people ask regarding golf is the maximum age bracket that actually determines the nature of the game and the performance that a player can deliver in the game.
According to many senior players of golf, the very essence in the game of golf lies in realising the fact that this game is never about the age but the mileage one can show in the game.
Writing as frankly as possible, there are various examples that can be derived from the past that testify the mileage over age notion in golf.
It is important to mention here that overall golf has no specified age bracket that determines the retirement of players playing this sport. However, age limits have been set for players either playing amateurs or pros.
In the amateur age bracket, a player can even play up to the age of 115 if he possesses the strength of swinging his club and making substantial impact without whiffing it.
However, keeping in mind the kind of game that will be played, it seems more or less hypothetical.
Nevertheless, this theoretical claim turned into a close-by reality when, in 1972, a golfer named Arthur Thompson was witnessed playing golf at the age of 103, the maximum age record achieved by any golfer.
In addition to this, there are other age records that have been witnessed to take place in the golf course at different phases of time.
It is primarily because of the constant widening of the age bracket in the game due to which a new terminology named as ‘age-shooter’ has been introduced in golf.
Amazingly, there are many players in mainstream golf who have already surpassed the 70 mark but are still physically active and energised to continue playing and entertaining their fans for another two decades.
Some prominent examples that serve as icons in this particular category are players like Sam Snead and Lee Trevino.
Sam Snead holds the title of firing 67 at the Quad Cities Open of the PGA Tour back in 1979. The following day, he was yet again able to set another record after he was able to shoot another 66.
As far as Lee Trevino is concerned, rarely anyone would have missed noticing the extremely vibrant 72-year old Supermex.
He has always been a source of great entertainment in the game of golf for his lively sense of humour and jokes that maintain an all high energy level in the game.
According to golf pundits, it is basically the sense of humour that helps in providing them with the energy reserve that they require to pursue their game, as well as entertain people who consider them to be their role models and icons.
For them, golf is no more about money or fame.  It is about doing something that can help them lead a healthy and a better life with the love and affection of people, rather than breathing their last in a small inn of an old house in a state of complete
isolation and solitude.
In addition to this, it is also important to mention that with the growing popularity of golf, these personalities have also pioneered a culture of serving as lively examples for other people from similar age brackets.
Hence, with all these services that these elderly figures have contributed in the development of golf and after observing their persistent enthusiasm, one can easily say that, for golf, there is certainly no age but only mileage.
