Something about the Olympic and sports these days that seems to portray the athletes in a more sexual way?

I saw most of the sports nowadays require really tight clothing (like the walking race and the athletes were wearing swimsuit-like panties). You can see almost every female athletes's nipple pokies and their body shape. And watching it from HDTV makes you able to see every detail of these athletes bodies. How can you respect sports like we used to be?

  1. they wear what they like and what they think will help them win

  2. its only sexual because that's what your looking for.....As for the nipples poking out....that happens all the time....and why would they not when your playing volleyball in the pouring rain...

  3. A lot of people have made excellent points about the reason for the tight clothing: to improve athletic performance.  I'd like to address another issue, the human body itself.

The person who asked this question is critical of the tight clothing and seems to have less respect for the athletes because it reveals so much of their bodies.  I could not disagree with him more.  The human body is a beautiful thing, and the body of a world-class athlete is truly a work of art.  Presented as it is in the Olympics -- in good taste and in athletic competition --  it is something to be admired.

  4. I think its hot.  Its good for them to compete in too.  This is the 21st century

  5. Then stop watching that evil TV and its sexual sports!

It has an off button, you know, and a channel changer too!

  6. I think you have the wrong perspective.  Sports in the olympics aren't requiring tighter clothes so that atheletes can look more s**y.  They are encouraging tighter clothes because of aerodynamics.

Have you noticed that in almost every single swim race in the 2008 olympics that the atheletes are beating the world record?  I saw one race where the team who came in 5th place, still beat the world record.  This is because of these newly designed swim suits.  Yes they are very tight on the athelete, but if it allows for the athelete to easily destroy a world record, why not?

So basically, the thought of sports being "sexualized" isn't really the case and in fact they are wearing tighter clothing to be more aerodynamic and let the athlete move faster.

  7. It's all about performance.  Tighter clothing helps -- in most sports.

And it's been a trend over the last few decades.  It didn't just show up overnight.

HDTV and greater coverage of sports has increased awareness of this trend.

  8. It maximizes performance.

  9. They wear tight clothing so they can move better and go faster. You have a perverted mind.

  10. Perhaps full body armour would be more fitting (no pun intended)

  11. Sports haven't changed . . . your awareness of them has, through HDTV and the ubiquitous media coverage. You are the one seeing the athletes clothing (specifically designed for performance, cooling, safety, comfort, etc) and turning it into something sexual. Shame on you!

  12. So, what's your problem?

I'm gonna get me one of those HD things too, then!!!

  13. That's your problem and opinion. The uniforms are for athletic prowess and performance. If you see it as sexual, you are the one who has a problem. I respect these athletes immensly and do not judge people by their dress! You should grow up and give maturity a try.

  14. yeah i think you just have a dirty mind.  Atheletes arnt wearing the skimpy  and tight clothes to try and be s**y.  There are legitmate benefits in term of comfort, reducing drag, and other legitamate benefits to wearing what they wear.  I mean do you really expect these people to be running in sweatpants and oversize tshirts?

  15. Its not necessarily about being sexual.

The clothing and uniforms these teams wear are prepared for years in order to be able to maximize performance. With the competition so close, the athletes worry about fractions of seconds and reducing all possible resistance.

Many people think the volleyball is very sexual but there is a reason for the tiny bikinis. The rules require the country name and symbol be on the uniform. The athletes want something tight that is more like a second skin than an article of clothing to promote flexibility and the discomfort of sand in the suit. So in the end they came up with the bikini they wear.
