Why are there 2 bronze medal matchs in the olympics, 2 matches and two bronze winners? Anyone know why?

  1. In judo and wrestling, there are 2 bronze medals. If you lost a bout in wrestling or judo during prelimnary round before you reach semi final, you can go on to "Repechage  group", where you will compete and the winner of the group wins the first bronze medal, the second bronze medal is decided between 2 contenders who lost the semi final.
