On what grounds do you discriminate?

"Just as you have the instinctive natural desire to be happy and overcome suffering, so do all sentient beings; just as you have the right to fulfill this innate aspiration, so do all sentient beings. so on what grounds do you discriminate?"

-Dalai Llama

I think this quote is one of the most profound quotes ever recorded and it speaks volumes to me personally. Just think about it. Every single day we see injustice. Crimes committed against men. Crimes committed against women. Crimes committed against whites, blacks, asians, hispanics, etc. Crimes against children and the elderly. In our daily lives we see these things go unnoticed but we are either apathetic to the situation or we pretend it didn't happen and go on with our lives.

We spend so much time fighting with each other. We spend so much time hating each other that we forget to go after the real perpetrators. We do you think we, as the human race do this?

  1. I only discriminate against douche bags who think it's OK to mistreat other people because they think those people are "weak" or should only be used for "entertainment." And for some reason they consider themselves "leaders" when they probably couldn't "lead" their own way out of a brown paper bag.

Those kind of people are a complete waste of space. Is it wrong to think that?

  2. Simply stated- Its a lack of God in each person's lives.

If everyone just followed the Holy Bible (New Testament) (without excluding anything on what it says to do) we would all live in peace. And be there for one another.

  3. Good point.  I would say something about the US and Imperialism, and then they government would come and get  me and put me in a concentration camp - oh no, that's fascist n**i Germany, not the the USA today - or is it???

Stop the War!  All we are saying... Is Give Peace A Chance...

  4. i really only discriminate against bad tippers, douche bags and mean people. they deserve my cold, cold shoulder.

  5. You're heart is in the right place. You seem very caring.

Addressing the question, herein is a definition of discrimination from Encarta:

    1. intransitive verb treat group unfairly because of prejudice: to treat one person or group worse than others or better than others, usually because of a prejudice about race, ethnicity, age, religion, or gender

Based on this def, there are NO grounds. Discrimination is simply wrong.

God said, All men are created equal.

Again, there are no grounds for discrimination. This is one thing to do about it - NOT to discriminate!

  6. I dont beleive the Dali Lama was asking WHEN is the right occasion to discriminate.

I think his question was rhetorical, a statement, that NEVER is it the thing for one to do, if she is enlightend and not engaged in ego driven controllism. -like everyone else.

If we could let go of the need to control, we'd be amazed at how much SELF control individuals would exercfise.

So..perhaps a little more anarchistic democracy, a little less police state might make a HEALTHIER environment, a happier one to be in, for us all.

And for the individual, if one learns to view all as equal souls in a common struggle,

and understands things like that even the abrasive behaviors, the lashing outs that people do,  things like that , are just reactions to pain those individuals are  experiencing ,

    then you may understand that

compasion should be given to those who "perpetrate",

    not punishment.

    The LESS 'judging' we do,

the more understanding without needing to BE understood, the better off our own experiences become

    as we remain peaceful,

and when aggression is met with peace, aggression stops

Of course having said that if you have some teritory to defend, a patch of dirt with some wire around it, perhaps,

well you may want to tell me you beleive in WAR making peace (because what idiot would allow another to take his dirt, rigth?

I find that pitiful and comical.

But I dont know how to make myself clearer as the hour is late, and this is big philosophical stuff.

But IT IS important because I suggest it has not yet been tried, to run this place by NOT attempting to control everything, and NOT gouing around threatening evryone into conformity, caging them when they wont.

    We could do better.

And this the Lama refers to.

Try it on an individual basis = calmer happier life experience.

Then seek to make a better world. It takes time. All things must GROW into becoming, It takes time.

  7. Some people are too weak to stand up for themselves we cant expect them to stand up for others.  CAN WE?

Some people are just born to lead and others will only follow.

  8. i would have to say ive discriminated alot on peoples motives towards ppl......i tend to think ppl are stuck up and dont want to talk to me or others or help anybody...but ive learned alot of it is shyness/anxiety...ppl get nervous around ppl and situations and i used to think it was cuz i was looked at bad or people didnt like helping ppl,but im really nervous to say or even look at someone at times and its not cuz im stuck up or rasict its im nervous as s***. so im sure plenty of other ppl feel the same way. ..hopefully that made sense.

  9. I try to judge people and treat them the same way they treat me.  I try not to be judgmental of a person because of their race, creed or skin color. I want to be treated fairly and I try to treat others the way that I would want to be treated.

  10. Simple.  People don't know how do deal with their own weaknesses, so they project their insecurities onto others.

  11. Generally, whenever I see a person (of any gender or race) monkey-walking along because they can't use a device as simple as a belt, or when I hear a person utter the phrase 'mah ***-gah,' or 'muthafukuh,' I immediately know that we have nothing in common and this person has nothing to offer me.

  12. I discriminate due to nationality. There are people from two different countries two different continents that have to earn my respect. This is because I did respect people from these two people til they proved arrogant and ignorant. Their favorite phrase is "in my country". I have actually asked a few of them if their country was so great what were they doing over here trying to mess up my country.
