hi i use to have 2 12 in cvrs and they sounded nice but something came up and i had to sell them and now i want to put in either a 15 in cvr or 15 in punch phase 3. do you think that this setup would come close to what i had before. im using the same amp i had for the cvrs with the 15 im planning on getting which is a sony xplod 1200 watt amp. keep in mind im only getting one 15 to save sum trunk space.

  1. get a punch series rockford fosgate 15.

  2. check the rems on the sub anything above 300 rms should sound the same  but i would got wit the rockford fosgate stage 3 they sound really good wit any amp... but u have to take in to consideration on the box u are using  a inclosed box would give u the sound u want... but if u want to have a more bass like fell get a plexiglass subbox

  3. 2 -12" = 226 sq in cone area

    1 - 15" = 177 sq in cone area

assuming they are round, this is particularly important in sealed enclosures, with ported enclosures you have the port volume as well as your sq in of cone area , and that can change things quite a bit.

  4. yeah it should sound  close to the same but remember that size doesnt matter with speakers i have two sony xplods and they thump hard as h**l. as long as you have a good amp though. and also make sure how much rms your sub has because the higher the rms the better. i suggest if you really wanna bump go for the cerwin vega or if you go cheaper go and get either a square kicker or rocksford fosgate.

  5. id get a rockford T2 15  and ditch the amp and get something more powerfull and not sony and dont get the 15 to save trunk space biger the box biger the sound

  6. it will not be as loud, the two 12s would have been louder and they would also sound better (15s sound a little sloppy)

when it comes to bass RMS wattage is important but it does not have quite as much affect as surface area, and 2x12=24inches of area as opposed to just 15inches

if you go with a 15" L5 or L7 (square) it would be closer to the two 12s because you gain a lot of surface area when you go from round to square
