Question:

One-way flight to Rome!?

I will be going to Italy (Rome) to stay and work "under the table" for about a year, without papers. I don't know exactly how long I'll be staying so I just bought a one-way ticket. Has anyone been in this situation? Any tips? I was thinking I'd just say that I'm meeting friends in Rome then we're all going backpacking and I don't know where I'll end up (hence a one-way ticket). Do you think this would work?

  1. Very nice! Going to italy Illegally! Say home! Italy doesnt need any more illegal immigrants! If you go I hope you get robbed and left with nothing!

  2. stay in tuscany is very beatiful and also rome.

  3. It might. Or what happened to a friend of mine, might happen to you: She was forced to buy a round-trip ticket at check-in for full price (an outrageous amount) because the airline wouldn't let her fly without a return ticket. (An airline can be held responsible for your passage back to your departure city if they knowingly let someone try to get into a country illegally).

You also risk getting stopped on your way into Italy or at a passport control in another EU airport if you make a connection.

Yes, it is true that at one time it was easier to fudge these things. You could come over, stay as long as you want and just take the train to Switzerland every three months to get your passport stamped. But now with EU regulations your 3-month time period for being in a European country applies EU-wide and authorities are cracking down on folks violating the rules.

I'm kinda surprised you got a one-way ticket that wasn't really expensive. Usually they are just as much as a RT or close to it.

  4. Usually they don't ask questions, my wife (she from usa) she always come back to italy without a ticket to go back to the states (at the time she had not papers for many years and she worked to for the italian  govern....)

anyway, if they ask you way you don't  have a return tikcet, you can say that italy is not your destination andyou will be travelling accross europe....
