I am looking to go to college on line. I want to be like a 5th grade social studies teacher. I have my GED. Anyone know some good schools for this. I don't even know what the major would be called or the course. Like if I call what do I need to say that I want to major in??? If anyone has any advice that would be great!

  1. think you are looking for an elementary education bachelors degree. This site has some information on them and some schools for you to look into.

    http://www.ecollegefinder.org/bachelors-...

I think you can fill out the form on there and they will contact you. I'd recommend contacting a couple schools to find which one is the best fit for you.

  2. I am sorry, in my opinion, online courses are not enough to be a teacher.

I wouldn't go to a dentist that earned her degree online without seeing an open mouth and I wouldn't want my children in a classroom where the teacher earned his degree online without being in the classroom.

If you really want to be a teacher, try to go to on-site school.  You do not even have to live on campus.  You will learn a lot more, I promise.  A lot of times, you may actually be able to go to an on-site school cheaper than taking online courses.  I saved about $5k doing my Masters on-site rather than online.

The major would probably be Elementary Education.  The major will likely be teaching you how to teach all of the subjects.  Secondary (6-12) Educations does departments such as Social Studies. Unless you get hired at a school that departmentalizes their 5th grade, you will most likely be teaching all of the core subjects.
