My uncle may be opening a petstore (dont worry , i ensured that he wont be supporting mills, infact , i made sure that he wont sell any dogs or cats. he will be selling reptiles,rodents,bugs,arachnids,birds,fi... and stuff;)

the petshop will be supporting the rspca , and we want some name ideas , my uncles name is Steve, and we want a cool , fresh name , here is our ideas so far:

Pets Plus

Pet Palace

Petpals

Pet Fusion_________

those are our ideas, but we need some new ones )

also , where are we supposed to get supplies?

ps, we are big animal lovers (i even volounteer at the rspca) and we will have large enclosures for all livestock that we sell.

(and the best possible food for them) , do you recommed any specific types of toys/food ?

so far we have decided that the main food we support will be Hills Science Diet , and also we will support "kongs".

Thanks!

  1. I work in a pet store.

The best thing you can do food wise is offer both food many people buy- Bakers, Pedigree- and then a different selection of high nutrition food. Yes, I know that Bakers etc. is 'bad' food- however, if you only sell nutritionally good and frequently expensive food, you may lose out on customers and therefore money to keep buying stock. However, you can also see this as a chance to educate people about good dog food and bad dog food.

Toys- Kongs are great, make sure you have a good supply of tennis balls, and see if you can get one of those chucka things? Frisbees are always good, and offer a small selection of dog-safe soft/squeak toys, as well as 'tough toys'.

  2. It sounds good and I hope it works out.  My boyfriend has been in the industry all his life (decades!). His older brother owned a store for 30 years and he's not liking what he's seeing.  He used to want a store but long changed his mind, with restrictions on, first the birds, due to CITES, and alot of saltwater (his specialty) areas are closing down.  He has worked for a friend for the last 5 years and said most people aren't interested in animals anymore, and that lately, they're dumping stuff off like crazy.....just giving up their animals.   I guess a few days ago, 1 guy brought in a large Savannah monitor, a large Boa, and something else.....each with a 75 gallon tank.  I hope it works out for your family, you sound nice and caring.......Good luck!!!  Just thought I'd give a bit of input I've heard......

  3. You know the reptiles and rodents and birds come from breeding mills too most often than not, right?

Why is it okay to sell them, just not dogs and cats? They are overpopulated and neglected just as much, if not more.

Why not just sell products, no animals and have rescues only.
