Operation system not found

Question

laptop hp pavilion n5350 pentium 111---all of a sudden the operation system not found note comes up..I cannot get into anything else no matter what I do. If I do contrl/alt delete and hit escape it takes me to a boot up sequences..non that works..then it takes me to a setup which asks for a pass word...
