Optimum dvr help?

i just got a dvr box the other day and i want to plug it on and i keeps turning off and say ER 01 can anyone help me to fix it? it will let me watch tv for 5 mintues then turns off can anyone help?

All DVRs must get updated software, Try plugging the unit in, Do NOT turn on, Let it set overnight, All software updates are done when the unit is powered off.If this does not work I suggest returning the item or exchanging it for another.

I think the the ER 01 means there was a problem with updating the software. Call Optimum hopefully they can resolve this for you.
