  1. I would and regularly choose Caring Hands Ministries http://www.caringhandsministries.com because I have known what it has done since it began which is helping people in need in southern Appalachia.  I know the area so I know the need is real.It is an all volunteer organization so the money goes to help ppl not just overhead.  I know that in the area 1 child in 6 and one senior citizen in 8 doesn't have enough to eat to be hungry according to USDA and Second Harvest.  I know the average homeless person in the area is a 7 yr old kid and there are way more than 2000 homeless kids in the area and less that 150 shelter beds for kids.  I know there are always more needs than there is mone to meet the needs.  I volunteer with Caring Hands too so I know how people are treated and that it does help not just put a band aid on a hemmorage but helps people learn to overcome the things that put them in need as far as they can.   I know a lot of the volunteers are people who have faced the same problems they are helping solve so it is not just a bunch of outside do-gooders but real people helping with real problems because their hearts are in it.   Of course if you have money I'd love for you to send it to Caring Hands too but if not you can use the same kind of checking out the organization to decide where to use your money.

  2. Jaipur Rugs Foundation

  3. CARE International, because they are focused on empowering women and girls. Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime; teach a woman to fish, feed her entire village forever.

Also, MADRE.org, because they also work with women and girls, through small local NGOs.
