Im upgrading my crappy system, and ive done alot of researching on JL W6 AND W7, Kicker SOLOBARIC L7, MTX 9500 THUNDERBIRD, AND SOME MA AUDIO SUBS.

But the Orion HCCA 15.4 cought my eye

I think im gonna get it, but before i do should i reconsider?

Its mostly between Orion And Kicker, on ebay i saw 2 solo baric L7 15" for around $500 and in a regular site like crutchfield 1 costs $550, but on ebay orions are more expensive than stores, the cheapest site i saw it for $340

2 KICKER = 2000 RMS - 4000 MAX

1 ORION = 2000 RMS - 4000 PEAK

Even though the wattage equals between the 2 subs, im guessing to kickers would be louder because 2 subs push more air.

  1. Are you sure you want to do this on your own?  I mean you are talking about a complete system in the 1000 $ range and you are not working with a professional installer to at the least, give you advice and guidance on your plan.

If you came to my shop. we would have a long talk about the pros and cons of going for a high output system verses an efficient sound system that sounds good.

Is your car set up for a 2000 rms system?  (high output alternator? upgraded battery? About 500$ in upgrades)

its not possible to get more than 1000-1300 rms out of your car without making several expensive changes to your car.

    amp x volt = watts

    90 amp alternator x 14.4 volts = 1296 watts of power generated.

if you are only generating 1296 watts and you are trying to pull 2000 watts out, good luck.  All it does is turn a good 2000 rms amp into a 1300 watt amp.

there are many other factors to consider beyond price and sound in choosing a setup over 1200 watts.  Talk to a local shop cuz talking is free.  Get some good advise before you lay down hard earned money on stuff.

the simple answer to you original question is that 2 woofers will almost always beat 1 woofer.  (no matter who is claiming otherwise)

Also, Pioneer Premier subs at 1000 rms is 249 MSRP.  Make a deal and you can get your 2000 rms for about 400 with a 2 year factory warranty too.

  2. forget crutchfield.com they are way overpriced check out hifisoundconnection.com or onlinecarstereo.com

i would go for the 2 kickers. and forget about ma audio. and jp brings up alot of good points.

  3. well to start off... i can see you do not know what ur doing.

why? because you are looking at the dual 4 ohm voice coil version of the Orion subwoofer.

this means, the subwoofer will run down to 2ohms. which means u will need a strong amp.

you will be better off with the dual 2 ohm version so the final ohm load is 1 ohm, which will require a bit less expensive amp to get 2000 watts rms at 1 ohm.

but either way, the L7s might be louder due to the combined cone area. just remember to build ur own box, or get someone who knows how to make good custom boxes. this build will require a box made for those specific subwoofers with a port.

for port tuning, i would recommend you 30-33Hz if you want to be loud and have decent sound quality.

but if you just want to be loud, lose all sound quality, and gain a few more db's at the term lab... go with a tuning of 34-40 Hz.

do notice, either build will require a very big box.

also remember to upgrade the alternator and adding a 2nd battery, do the big3 wire upgrade, and use thick (1/0 gauge) cable for the power wires.
