Ouija board question...?

I've tried the ouija board once, during a sleepover years ago. Of course, we were too chicken to continue so before we could even say our prayers and such, one of my friends ran to the door and broke the "mood" so we ended up not playing at all.

What I've always been curious about was, what happens if after using the board, you did not say goodbye to the spirit? Do you have any stories about the consequences of the board? Because I'm trying to convince this friend of mine to NOT experiment, but I need facts.

You may not believe this, but you are, between you, putting all the information in by how you touch whatever it is you move over the board, and there are no spirits involved at all. It's just you.

But you should not be doing this, because (a) you are obviously scared of it and (b) things might come out that one of you is thinking of that are best kept private.

no! ouija board acts as a kind of portal and is dangerous! there are supposed to be special rituals and such that can close the door that you open to communicate with the paranormal, but im not sure how safe and real all of them are. it would be best not to because i've heard of bad things that happen to people who use ouija boards who don't know what there doing, even if all you want to do is talk to grandma. what your friends might want to do is just call a paranormal research group and see if they will let them come, they probably won't but it would be safer i think if they would allow it.

also if they do, do anything i cometo understand that standing in a circle of salt is supposed to help keep you safe.

The idea is when you use it you open up a sort of gateway or portal to the spirit world.  If you do not say good bye then the portal stays open and other spirits can get through.  Whether you believe in it or not that's what is suppose to happen.  My friends and I left it open and we were followed that night by someone.  We could just see it.  Finally I confronted it and it went away.  Ouija boards aren't evil but don't mess around if you're scared.  There's my story believe what you will.

I wouldn't be so eager to try them. I'll tell you that I've heard this question a million, scratch that, a billion times. And no, nothing good comes from them. They are a way to channel spirits. The board acts as a doorway from their world to ours, or so to speak. Now, there is no filter on this doorway and anybody can come through it, good or bad. The most frequently attracted to it, so it seems, are the bad once. Angry spirits who want to be heard and may not leave you alone or demonic entities who will pretend to be good, get your trust, and then reveal themselves. Then you're in too deep.

I would just stay away from them. Look into automatic writing. It's a safer alternative and you're not inviting anything weird into your home that way.

Nothing happens if you play the ouija board.  Nothing happens if you do not say "goodbye", no more than anything happens if you do not say "goodbye" when playing scrabble.  Here are the facts about ouija boards:

The ouija board is just a game that you can buy in most toy stores and department stores, an ordinary piece of wood or plastic or cardboard.  It is meant for two or more players so it will not work very well if you try to use it alone.  It has no supernatural powers.  It does not communicate with the dead and it does not contact spirits.  It does not open any portals to the underworld or to anywhere else.  The people using the ouija board make it work through ideomotor movement.  It plays on your mind and imagination and your susceptibilities and beliefs and fears.  It can be scary because the imagination is a powerful thing, and can make you believe just about anything.  Here are a couple of links that discuss ouija boards and how to use them.
