  1. Did you stop it by turning off the icemaker or turning off the water?

If you could only stop it by shutting off the water then the valve is bad.

If lifting the arm on the icemaker shut it off and stopped the water then it is the icemaker.

They are repairable but with labor it is cheaper to just buy a new icemaker if you can replace it yourself.

The biggest exception is ones made by whirlpool (and can be in different brands of refrigs).  Those have a module that fails and is not too hard to replace.

But we don't know exactly what the icemaker is doing, or even the brand or make. i.e. It could be the thermostat in it that is cycling it too often so a replacement might be a better solution than trying to repair it.

    Good Luck

  2. Make sure the float is still attached to the ice machine. Open it up and see what makes it stop.. The float device may be off.

  3. The amount of water is controlled by a timer or a motorized cam that opens and closes a micro switch.

Yours is not operating and stuck in the on position.
