Outlook to Gmail read receipts?

How does Gmail handle read receipt requests from Outlook? Does it automatically send a notification or request my permission first?

It doesn't, Gmail does not respond to a read request. There is no protocol for how read receipts work across the various email programs, so there's no guarantee that the receiver's email client/server will understand them.
