Does anyone know anything about Ovation Ultra 2071 Cutaway Acoustic-Electric guitar but I'm worried it's going to suck because its not a "popular" brand name... Can anyone please help me out?

  1. People tend to be divided over Ovations more so than any other guitar.  I think they're awful and I've never played one that I liked.  They have a very thin tone that sounds weak unless you're amplifying it, which is why virtually all of them are sold with electronics already installed.

Even people who like Ovations will admit that they're impossible to play while sitting down without a strap, a major inconvenience.  The round back makes it slip off your lap.

I think $500 is way too much to pay for a salad bowl with a top, neck, and strings but the choice ultimately is yours to make.  Have you played it and do you like it?

  2. Ovation are well known for making non-traditional acoustics, especially with fibreglass bowl backs.  They make excellent instruments. I wouldn't worry about it at all if you like the instrument. It is a "name" brand.  I don't own one, but they are known for a bright modern 'zingy' tone, while being well made and easy to handle.
