Question:

Oven doesn't work?

Have a gas range. all the burners on the top work fine, but the oven doesn't heat up. any ideas what's wrong withit or how to fix it?

  1. Nine times out of ten the ignitor is broken or cracked.

    It won't turn on the main gas to the oven burner until it senses the ignitor is hot (the resistance on it drops when hot, that is why a cracked one may glow dimly but not work).  

    But you didn't tell us anything like model or brand so we are just guessing. Make sure the simple things are not stopping it, like the clean lever in wrong position or with a mechanical clock that isn't working and it is in time bake instead of "manual" ( I have seen that last one too many times).

  2. I don't know how new it is but some of the ovens are dual gas and electric. Your oven may need to be plugged into a 220 volt outlet. If it already is, you may have had a wire come out of the outlet. Try to check to see if there is a pilot light that may have gone out. Good luck.
