im hooking up 2 40 watt rms 6 1/2 to a 400watt rms Rockford amp. i know! they will blow fast, but the weird things is the first day, they never. they kept going and my gain is near the max. then a couple days later it cut off and i thought i blew a fuse or the speakers popped. i checked and they are fine but the amp was hot as h**l. i know they are hooked up to 4 ohm load so why does my amp overheat. it turns back on after but why.

  1. you need to back off the gain, if your amp is heating up to the point of shut down its because its working to hard, just remember that the gain is not a volume k**b, its to match the output voltage of your head unit to the amp, so turn the gain down a bit and see if that solves the problem
