Question:

Overdraft fees help!?

I am a customer at Regions bank. Yesterday I deposited a check for 600 dollars. The check was supposed to go into my account but instead went into my wife's.

I didn't have a personal deposit slip at the time because I was on my home from work and wanted to deposit this check as soon as possible. The teller asked me which account did I want to deposit the money into, and I told her "The account where I am the primary.".

Because that did not happen I ended up with 280 dollars in overdraft fees.

The bank refuses to refund my money and is trying to tell me that this was my fault because I should have checked the deposit slip to make sure the money went into my account. It doesn't seem fair that I have to make sure that their employees are doing their jobs correctly.

Because of this error I don't have enough money to pay my rent this month. I really need help.

  1. Sounds like an honest mistake but I don't think there's anyway of getting out of paying bank fees.

  2. If the bank is not willing to work with you, you are always free to bank elsewhere.  Maybe your business is not that important to them.

I had a similar lesson learned the hard way when I was in college.  I certainly learned a tough life lesson about banking paperwork, but it was a miserable month.  Sorry all of this happened when things are already so tough.  Good luck.

  3. Call the president of the bank and file a regulatory complaint.
