Ovulation Predictor Kit

Question

Can someone explain how these work, and how you do it? We've been ttc for three months and no luck yet. I know that's not very long, but the first time it took one month! I wanted to to the test to know exactly for sure when the best time is.

Hi Karla K i have never done an OPK before but try this website below all you have to do is type in ur last period and it does the rest for you even tells u wen u r fertile and very fertile if u did fall pregnant using this it tells u wen to take a HPT and so on its helped me i'm pregnant and i have been goin by babymed.Hope all works out for you.

Firstly, you should buy a very sensitive OPK. You have many OPKs available in the market but the best ones are those which have the sensitivity of 20 mIU/ml. (Don't buy if it is greater than 20 mlU/ml). I bought mine from babywishes.org and I tested on 12th day. It detected the LH surge in the first test itself. They are really good. If you buy them in bulk you get them very cheap. You can also compare your results with the pictures which are posted on their websites or you can mail them your pictures or queries. Their service is excellent.

Secondly, you should test at least twice a day. This is very important. If you test only once a day there is a chance that you could miss the LH surge. You can read in the below link- how LH surge can be missed if you test only once in a day (FAQ 12). That is why I bought OPKs in bulk (I bought 100 of them!!) so that I don't run out of them. Start testing twice a day from day 8 itself and continue testing till you spot the LH surge. This way you are not going to miss the surge.

OPK work well. You use them similarly to how you use a HPT. You pee on it and it gives you a positive or negative reading. The way they work is by detecting a surge in the LH hormone which occurs approximately 12-36 hours prior to ovulation. There has been some confusion with this, just to clear up, a positive ovulation test does NOT mean you are currently ovulating rather, when you get a positive ovulation test you will ovulate within 12-36 hours, . I recommend using the digital ones. The digital ones I use give you an open circle if you have not reached your LH surge (negative) and a smiley face when you do reach it (positive). The other ones have two pink lines every time you test the only way to know when you find your LH surge is by judgeing when the test line is as dark or darker than the control line. Using digitals eliminates all the questions about was the test line dark enough to be a positive. Basically to sum up you pee on the stick you get a positvie reading when you reach your LH surge after you get the positive you will ovulate within 12-36 hours.
