Ovulation question, please look?

Hi ladies,

I just got my first ever positive OPK today (yay!)! My cycles have always been very very irregular (60-90 days), and I took Clomid for the first time ever this month, 50 mg on cycle days 3-7. I am ecstatic that I am actually going to ovulate on only 50 mg when a lot of ladies have to even go up to 150 mg. I am on cycle day 14 now, and my question is:

Is it normal to be having ovulation feelings for 3 days? I have had slight cramps like period cramps, but not nearly bad like period cramps. Just small ones all day long like they are just noticable but not really bothersome. Also, I have been having pain in my left ovary for these 3 days as well. I read that ovulation pain is from a few hours to 48 hours, but I am at about 72 hours now. Which would make sense now that I finally got a positive OPK. The signs are definitely there.

I have been abnormal for so long it just seems like this is fake and not real. Have you ever gotten a false positive on an ovulation test? Is that even likely? I am just so scared my temps won't go up in a few days (I've been charting). I hope this is for real. I'm sorry, it is just hard to be believe for me.

  1. Congrats and since you're using Clomid I doubt you have had a false OPK result.

I had very infrequent periods due to PCOS.  When I've used drugs to make me ovulate I've always had cramps a few days before ovulation time. I continue to have cramps for a good few days until I ovulate. Then I always get more of a sharp, stinging pain in my left ovary. I just put it down to the meds working.

When women normally ovulate they may only have cramps for a few hours but you haven't ovulated normally, maybe this is the reason for extended pain??  I highly doubt it's anything to worry about!

    Good Luck with TTC! xOx

  2. Cramps is just one of many possible but not clear ovulation symptoms.

There are several ways to find out if and when you ovulate:

Calculation: Ovulation and Fertility Charting and Calculator

    Temperature Charting

    Cervical Mucus Changes

    Ovulation Pain: Mittelschmerz

    OPK Ovulation Predictor Kit

    Blood Progesterone Test

    Ultrasound Exams of Ovaries

  3. I am also taking clomid 50mg because I don't ovulate its been three months and I have been ovulating this month on cd 14 is when I got a positive opk its cd 17 and its still showing positive I guess the test line isn't as dark as it was on cd 16-15-14 so maybe the egg got released on cd 16 or today. I will do another opk on cd 18 that way if its negative then the egg was released either on cd 16 or cd 17.
