Question:

Oyster card to Woolwich dockyard?

Hello!

I can't find any help with this even on TFL's site. I'm moving to a place near Woolwich dockyard station. I noticed some people using their oyster to get the train there, but mine won't let me go that far. Is there a special type of oyster or something you need to be able to do that? Where do I get one?

Thanks!

  1. Woolwich Dockyard is run by South Eastern Trains. Oysters are valid only if they have a travelcard loaded onto them with Zone 3 valid. South Eastern are one of the last Train Companies to install Pay as you go on Oysters (Single Journeys) hence Woolwich Dockyard won't accept Pay as you go untill around 2009!

For single journeys you need to buy a paper ticket, and if you are getting a travelcard onto your oyster it is fine to use it there. However travelcards on paper are better to use at Woolwich Dockyard because the oyster can't register its starting position and this could end up in a maximum fair taken off your card.
