I started school about a week ago, and my P.E. teacher has been a complete d**k. Everyone can see how he singles me out. He makes me feel stupid. And we haven't even started actually doing P.E. yet. He is always right in my face and dimeaning. Its really getting me down. I told my mom, and we really don't know how to go about taking action. What should we do? Help please.

  1. There are a few things to consider, please read the entire answer. The fact that you call him a d**k shows the possibility that you have shown some disrespect to this teacher, which may be why you feel he doesn't like you. I strongly encourage you to speak directly with the teacher before or after school.  Here is a possible script you could use:

Mr. So-and-so, I wanted to talk to you because it is the beginning of the year and I want to make sure that I get off on the right foot with all of my classes and teachers.  It feels sometimes that you are unhappy with me for some reason.  I have felt a little demeaned.  Is there something I have done?  Or is there some way I could improve?  I want to make sure I get a good grade in this class and it is important for me to have a good relationship with my teachers.

My guess is that your teacher will be surprised and humbled by this approach.  He might even give you some good feedback, or, admit that he has been having a bad few days and will make some changes.  The important thing is to approach him respectfully and calmly.  If you are unhappy with the result, your mom should call and ask for his take on the situation.  If there is still no resolution you should take it to a school counselor, who may be able to mediate.  Lastly, you should go to an administrator, but only after you have followed these other steps so that they see you have done things properly.

High school is hard because you are faced with these new, adult situations, but you can handle it well!  Good luck!  Don't forget to be nice to him first, and you will likely see some changes!

  2. Have your Mom call the school! That should fix your problem. Better yet have your Mom go down to the school! Believe me this time of year those administrators get cranky and they won't like having a parent down there complaining already. LOL
