PGA Championship Round up - Day Three
Strong weather conditions were expected at Kiawah Island this week for the PGA Championship and so it proved to be. On day two, there were extremely high speed winds. However, on day three, there was something much stronger, play had to be stopped and it
did not resume that day.
It will resume on Sunday and first, players who have not finished their third round will take to the field.
The surprise package of the day was the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy. Rory is currently leading the field with a score six-under par, the storm came at a bad time for him. He was playing the golf of his life and the storm could upset his flow.
On the hand, Tiger Woods would have been relieved that the storm came because he was having a torrid time out there. Tiger was furious with himself. Once again, he had an excellent second round but could not capitulate on it.
“I got off to a rough start today and could not get anything going,” he said in a quote relayed through his PR staff. “I will come back tomorrow morning and see what happens. There are a lot of holes left to play”.
Vijay Singh is also playing some excellent golf. He is currently leading the field along with Rory, with a score of six-under.
Adam Scott is also lurking a shot behind Vijay. If Adam can get a decent third round score, then chances are that he might be in contention for his first ever major title.
Chances are that players would have to play the fourth round on Sunday as well, it will be a tough job but Rory is up for it.
“I do not mind. I definitely do not mind that,” McIlroy said when asked about the prospect of playing 27 holes on Sunday. “It is nice going into the final day in a great position. And it being 27 holes, I definitely do not mind. I do not mind if it takes
a while to get done”.
Rory’s day was saved by some TV people, his ball got stuck somewhere in the woods and he could not find it until the TV people spotted it. Rory rallied from there and went on to score a par.
