Question:

Pagan/Wiccan courses at accredited colleges?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any accredited colleges/universities in Connecticut that offer courses that focus on the history of pagan/wiccan culture. Or, any throughout the US that have online classes in this subject.

  1. It's very rare to find one, let alone more than one, course that covers as small a time period as 60 years and as small a group as Pagans.

  2. I don't know if there is (I doubt it) but if you want a really academic outlook on paganism, read Ronald Hutton's Triumph of the Moon.

    :)

  3. There probably are.  Check the cultural studies, religion, anthropology, philosophy, and history courses.  If nothing is available, you can always ask a professor at your college to let you do a directed or independent study course.

One online course that I know of, although not specifically pagan/wiccan, may interest you.  UCLA Extension is offering a course on Comparative Religion this fall online for upper-level undergraduate credit.  It's offered by the Department of Anthropology, so there will certainly be detailed attention to pagan faiths, although possibly not Wiccan.  It starts September 20th, so if you're interested, you'll want to register soon.  I've taken courses with UCLA Extension previously, and really enjoyed them.

Best of luck with your studies!

  4. It's not much history to look in to honestly. Its only about 60 years old and can easily be studied on your own.

  5. I know most colleges offer general religion courses that cover pagan topics.
