Question:

Paint! Please help...?

I went down to the paint store and looked at all of the color swatches they had. I decided on a light coffee color, which the store then mixed for me. When I painted, it seemed rather light, but thought I'd give it time to dry, as paint always dries a darker shade than what it is when it's wet. Now I look at it, and it is harldy any different to what I had before, and it is not the same color that I chose.

Now what??

  1. i would try to give it  another coat, thats about all you can do,it might  not get darker.

  2. Did you bring the chip home and look at in your house?  Often the light in the store is nothing at all like the light in your home.  Your paint can should have a label on it that has the name of the color and the tint formula.  Take your finger and dip it in the paint, then apply it to the chip.  Don't completely cover it, but then let it dry and compare it to the color shown.  If it's way off, take that in and ask the paint store to replace the paint they mixed for you with new paint mixed properly.

If the shade is just slightly different, you may be out of luck.  Many paint stores have disclaimers about them not being responsible for slight variations in the color.

    Good luck.

  3. Take it back and tell them that you wasted your labor. Always buy the best paint such as Behr's from Home Depot.

Another hint. Don't be afraid of color. if you are timid with color, you won't get the effect you want. Next time paint a few different swatches of color instead of the whole wall. Wait a few days and see which one you like before you do the whole room. Many places will sell you a sample sized can.

  4. I would go back to the paint store with what paint you have left if any and color swatch and let know it didn't come the color on the swatch that you wanted... Or you primer over what you did  redo it...or  get a darker color.. dj

  5. you just found out the hard way the paint chip never matches the color, most stores offer sample cans of paint at lower prices,if you like the tone of the color you have but justwant it deeper get a sample at 25% or %50 more of the original formula try it over the existing and go from there

  6. Check the paint against your card first. Then if it checks out, take it back and ask the to tint it a few shades darker or lighter to your liking. I find it hard to beleive you didnt buy a sample pot first for a few bucks to check, would have saved you heaps of money now. I often buy half a dozen sample pots first before going and buying a full size tin of the colour i liked. Maybe dont try and rush things next time

  7. Well since you had the paint custom mixed you can't get your money back. You will have to live with it.

OR, if you want it lighter you could buy some white and add to it to make it lighter.

OR, if you want it darker you could take it back and ask them to darken it for you.

    Good luck !!!

  8. take it back tell them it was wrongly mixed.
