When giving a car to a professional to paint (with acrylic paint made by Standox which I believe is a very good brand) what should the minimum requirements be? Apart from dealing with any rust I understand that a minimum of one coating of primer and two of actual paint are necessary but some people say that two coatings of primer and three of paint are necessary plus a coating of clear coat and finally putting the freshly painted car for a time in an oven. And is sanding the primer after it dries necessary? So what is the minimum one should demand for a reasonably good paint job? Finally if any badly rusted parts are cut off and new metal pieces welded on to replace them will they last well in the future or will they rust easily at the welding line?
