Newcastle United manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew was disappointed with his youngsters after last night’s 2-0 defeat against Bordeaux in the Europa League.
Despite the defeat, Newcastle have progressed through to the next stage of the competitions, finishing in second place in their group. This ensures European football for the Magpies till 2013, and is a small positive amidst their dismal form in the Premier
League.
The Magpies managed their first win in 5 games on Monday night against Wigan Athletic. With the squad suffering from injuries and suspensions, Pardew faces a shortage of players as he looks to turn around the team’s season.
The most recent player who was sidelined was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yohan-Cabaye-c37423, who has been ruled out till next year. The French midfielder is an integral part of the squad, and recently underwent surgery on his groin. Alan Pardew admitted that losing the player was a major
blow, but was confident his team will manage without him.
The manager put out a very young side last night in the Europa League, and was clearly disappointed with the performance. Pardew has said last week that he hoped his youngsters will put on a good game and put pressure on the first team, but he admitted after
the Bordeaux game that his young players may have blown their chance in terms of pushing for a spot in the first team.
Speaking to reporters, he said:
“The truth of it is that a lot of our young players who played tonight, I was expecting a little bit more. We will have a good look at them now because I don’t think the opportunity is going to come around for them again this season unless we really suffer
like we did tonight, in terms of who was available.”
“I think they need to learn a little bit more about this game away from the black and white and the pressure of the jersey and the level we’re playing at. I will probably look at loaning a few of those played tonight, hopefully in January when the squad
is a bit stronger.”
Newcastle travel to Craven Cottage on Monday in the Premier League to face Fulham once the English top flight resumes after this week’s round of European action.
