Paris Questions?

1) The Louvre and other museums are closed on Tuesdays. Is Tuesday a special day in France?

2) Does anyone know of any hotels that are close to the Eiffel tower with a good view from the rooms?. Preferably not much more than $600 US Dollars a night.

We are going to London, and are planning on going to Paris for one night. Just trying to plan in advance.

Thanks!

  1. 1) Museums

French museums are typically open all days except Monday or Tuesday. Most museums are closed on Monday, but some (such as the the Louvre and a few others) are closed on Tuesday. There is no specific reason; they are open on Sunday so that people who work can go visit them, so they picked a day to close during the week.

    2) Hotel

This is difficult to answers since you can see the Tour Eiffel from the top floor of most Hotels.

However, guessing that you would like to be closer to the Eiffel Tower (rather far), I would recomment staying in the 8th Arrondissement, so that you can see the Eiffel Tower across the river (if you are too close, you cannot really appreciate the beauty of it).

Plaza Athene and George V will certainly have rooms on their top floors which have an acceptable view (these are 2 of the 4 best hotels in Paris). The rcently opened Fouquets Barriere, further up on Avenue George V is a little higher, so you might be able to have a nice view of the Tower (and also the Arc de Triomphe). The Hotel de la Tremoille is another really good hotel right next to the Plaza AThene.

Another really good spot would be the new Costes K, at Avenue Kleber. The Costes Hotels and Restaurants are famous in Paris for being cool spots, so I don't think you can go wrong with them. They also own the L'Avenue restaurant on Ave Montaigne which is famous for being a 'cool' sport.

There are no nice hotels in the immediate suurroundings of the Eiffel Tower (around the Champs de Mars), so across the river is definitely you best shot.

Whatever you do, make sure you confirm with the Hotel that their rooms have a clear view of the Tower. As with any place in the world, some rooms have the nice view, and others will have a view on the other side (Arc de TRiomphe)

    3) Other Tips

From London, the Eurostar is definitely the easiest way to go.

Regarding Museums, if you spend only a day in Paris, the Louvre will take too much of your time. The Musee du Quai de Branly is a beautiful museum, right next to the eiffel tower that was inaugurated by Pres. Chirac. It was designed by Arch. Jean Nouvel and looks amazing. It hosts a colection of arts from native civilasation (Pacific, Asia, AMerica and Africa).

Opposite the Eiffel Tower are the Musee des Monuments, Palais de Tokyo, Musee d ARt Modern and Muse de l Homme. All really famous and with great views of the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero.

  3. 1) There is nothing special about Tuesdays.

    2) For $600 a night, you'll have a lot of choice.

For hotel reviews you can look here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g18714...

  4. No tuesdays are not special days.

There are lots of hotels around the tower everything from Hilton's to Novotel. Do a search for "hotels tour eiffel" "hotels trocadero" also try "hotels paris 16eme"

the accor line of hotels is pretty good, sofitel and novotel stay away from the (Ibis tour eiffel)

    enjoy your trip

btw for 600 you can get a very nice room!
