Question:

Parking in Hammersmith?

I'm moving to London next month and I'll be staying in a hostel in Hammersmith at first, and hoping to find a flat. Does the Hammersmith area have free on-street parking anywhere? Or if not is there anywhere I can leave it a bit further out, I don't mind just getting the tube in.

Also once I've got a flat if I have to sort out a permit etc how long does this normally take?

Thanks! :-)

  1. Hammersmith & Fulham council website has information on parking, see link below.

  2. Nowhere in Hammersmith is free. Every street is pay & display parking or resident parking. Only after 6:30 pm will be free but then you will never find a parking space as by that time everyone who are not even residents will go to park there. Few years ago there were some free parking zone in Shepherds Bush such as Becklow Garden and Askew Road but not anymore.

If you manage to get a flat in the Hammersmith area, you can go to the Fulham town hall with your proof of address to apply for a resident parking. At the time I lived there ( about 8-9 years ago) the fee was &54 yearly. Now I think it will be more than £100. Still, it's cheaper to pay every hourly. But mind you, owning a resident parking permit doesn't guarantee you to find a space at night. I remember I sometimes had to turn more than half an hour to find a parking space at least 10 streets away from my home. Other nights I didn't find any and just double parked. And I think these days it's even worse because things never get better they just get worse with more people and cars.

  3. on street parking is free
