One dog has parvo. The other doesnt.

The dog that doesnt have parvo went to stay with my sister. The dog that doesnt have parvo is pregnant (I am only 15. I realize my family is irrasponsible for not spaying our dog, or getting them shots=(

Anyways, my older sister blew up at me, and said she hates pregnancy. She hates fleas. She hates animals. She is going to kill my dog, or drop her in a river. My parents dont care, and I am the only one that can help my dog. Where can my dog go? If she comes here, she could get parvo and die. I dont know where to bring her. My dog is my whole life. I cant live without her. Where can I bring my dog? Please help me!!!!!

  1. ASPCA..or vet

  2. well if you have a best friend then you should leave the dog with them and supply them with dog food

  3. Ok, i know some will not like my answer but my puppy had parvo a week ago.  It was a weekend and i couldn't take her to the vet.  I got online and googled and it said people are trying Tamiflu in dogs with Parvo and that it was working overnight.   My husband had some Tamiflu from last year when he had the flu.  I opened the capsule and seperated it into little-bitty doses.  Suppose to give it twice a day for 5 days.  I gave it to her twice on Saturday and got up Sunday morning expecting her to be dead because of how sick she was.  She jumped up that next morning(Sunday) chewing on everything, running, playing, eating,  and no more vomitting.  In two more days the diarrhea was completely gone. Thank God for the tamiflu and I have yet to take her back to the vet!   She doesn't need to go!  I hope this helps you!  Meanwhile also give it one tsp of Pedialyte every 2 hours because the dehydration is usually what kills them.   Good luck!

  4. Simple - bring your dog home! If one has parvo it isn't 100% certain that the other will get it too! Your sister is the devil incarnate and needs putting to sleep - it'll save a life-time of misery - horrible f*****g b***h!!! Ignore that thing for the rest of your natural and you'll go a long. long way - who needs things like that in the family? Nasty b***h! Your pregnant dog will be fine but do get the parvo dog sorted with a vet - shelters will help as will the ASPCA - they won't turn you away! Good luck mate - stick it out because you sound like the only decent member of your family!

  5. Do you have another family member or friend who can take her in? If she is a purebred, you may be able to turn her over to rescue or have them foster her.

  6. I would contact the vet who diagnosed the dog that has Parvo, and see if they can offer any suggestions, such as someone who might do a "foster home" arrangement with you.   If you cannot afford to pay them, maybe you could do some kind of work exchange with them.

About the only alternative I can imagine is to keep the sick dog inside and the well dog outside, or in some way keep them isolated from each other.

My sympathies on the state of your sibling and parental relationships.  Your sister sounds like a real case!

  7. I'm sorry but if you can't afford to give your dog the proper shots then you should not be owning a dog at all.

  8. Firstly you need to contact youor locall vet about the dog that does have parvo virus- its a horrible virus that kills a dog slowly and painfully. Your vet should give you advice on how to treat the dog, or at least to euthanase it if you decide not to treat it. They should also be able to give you advice on how to steralize your house and yard so that other dogs cant pick it up.

Then you should get your other dog to the vet, get her vaccinated at least- but you will have to wait a while before she will be immune to parvo (i think it takes a few days for the vaccine to work- not 100% sure but you can talk to your vet about it.) You can also talk to your vet about the dogs pregnancy. It is possible to desex her and abort the puppies if she hasnt been pregnant for long.

If you cant do this- you should really consider taking your pregnant dog to a no kill animal shelter- they will be able to give her the vet care that she needs, have her vaccinated, flead, desexed, etc and help her to find a loving home where somebody can care for her properly. Its a hard decision to make but ultimately you have to make the best choice for your dog.

  9. Take her to the SPCA or see if there is a Humane Society near you. I would suggest the Humane Society first. Don't take her to the pound!!! They will kill her and the pups as soon as you say anything about Parvo being anywhere near her.

  10. Sadly Parvovirus will live in the environment for 3 years so even after your other dog is treated for parvo, you cannot have your pregnant, unvaccinated dog back in your home for at least 3 years. :(
