Pass Plus. Is it worth it?

Female driver, 30 , 2nd hand car will be parked off road in a residents private car park right in front of my flat. I know there are added benefits like the experience you get covering the Pass Plus modules but is the cost of the course worth any insurance discount I might get? My friend says it is only worth it if you are a young, male driver.

Everyone is right, its not really worth as insurers dont really give a discount at all, i took it and got no discount

When I was first looking for insurance, most insurance companies didn't care about pass pluss, some only offered a little less if you had it, and some actually made it more expencive if you had it!

The only reason you should do it is if you want more experience in driving, however, you can do that with a friend, you don't need to do it with a driving instructor

So I would say, no, pass plus is not worth doing, it's utterly pointless, especially in your situation. Just get a friend to sit in the car with you when you drive down a wet motorway.

Yes PASS PLUS is worth it depending on the instructor and price.  Most of my pupils are unsure whether or not to complete the 6 hour course....In town, Night driving, All weather driving, Rural (country) roads, Dual carriageway, Motorway....1 hour in each subject when possible....if you cannot do any subject because of conditions, eg no bad weather, you do the subject as theory and get more practice driving an area you need more practice on...ie motorways.  

ALL my pupils who take the course thoroughly enjoy it and gain so much more experience in driving out of the areas they are used to practicing for test!  

Most insurance companies do ask you to complete the course within one year of passing test, some even request within 6 weeks to get a discount.  It really does not matter - male/female or how old you are to do the course. I would recommend it

it isnt worthe it if you are not a teenager - the pass plus is aimed at the young drivers of the world to reduce their premiums and give them extra driving. give an insurance company or two a ring for a quote and ask them for a quote with and without hte pass plus - but i honestly think you will find that it wont make a blind bit of difference to you because of your age.

Im a young male driver ( 17) and to be honest its not worth you sitting it.  For the experience of driving in different conditions etc, then maybe, but I just learn myself by going out there and doing it myself, self teaching you could say,  I just remember what I learnt in my lessons and put it to practice.  

Even for me its not worth it, I would only gain from doing it, if i owned my own car, and was the first main driver on that car, but since Im in the prime age group for accidents ( 17 - 25 years) my insurance is through the roof, about £2,000 a year was the average.  I worked out it was cheaper for me to be a second driver on the car( parents where the first) and it was about £400, compared to being the main driver on the car with the discount of pass plus, it is some difference, and I still gain my no claims bonus, even better!

Use moneysupermarket.com, or confused.com to search all the insurance companies for you, firstly do it without your pass plus, and as first driver, then second driver ( make sure you still get your no claims bonus though) then do it again for quotes with your pass plus, and compare to see which is cheapest!

Almost nothing and very few insurance companies discount for pass plus. Its good if you feel like you need extra tuition on driving on motorways ect ect.

You can ONLY take Pass Plus within 12 Months or receiving your full driving licence.

It is definately worth taking, as you build up more experience, and also have an added bonus when someone asks you how good you are at driving, or your licence status, etc.

2 Hours - Motorway

2 Hours - Nightime Dusk Driving

2 Hours - Bad whether conditions

I know 2 Driving Instructors, and they both reccomend it.

I did the Pass Plus course when I was 18 (I'm female). It did give me more experience, but wasn't worth it in my opinion.

I didn't get any discount on my insurance and I spent hours searching for insurance companies that gave anymore than £10 off!

If you need additional experience, go for it. If not, just get a qualified driver to come with you in various weather conditions and for your first time on the motorway - which is common sense.

i wasnt going to do the pass plus as of the price and it will only knock a couple of quid off for my insurance and im still payin loads but i would like to widen my experience it may benefit you when you drive at night or on the motorway and it could help stop accidents.

if you live in wales you could do the pass plus cymru which is only 20 £ which is what im doing.
