I am a U.S citizen living abroad. I have recently started wearing the Muslim Hijab or Veil. What do I have to do regarding photos and showing up at the U.S. Embassy when I renew?

  1. have a picture of you with no Vail you will not get one!!!

  2. go to DOS website or call the US Embassy and find out the requirements for pictures for the passport. Looks like you know how to use computer and internet. Research it yourself so that your understanding is clear and there is no confusion on such an important thing.

  3. There was a lady in Flordia that was told she could not wear her head covering in her license photo.  There was never really a resolution.  If you are comfortable maybe use an old photo if you still have one.  That might help make the situation run smoothly.  If not, just show up with a picture of you with a veil showing as much of your face as you are comfortable with so that there can be less to disbute.

  4. Here is your answer.

Unless worn daily for religious reasons, all hats or headgear should be removed for the photo. In all cases, no item or attire should cover or otherwise obscure any part of the face.**
