  1. New laws require the use of passports when traveling outside of the US. This now includes Canada, Mexico, and the Carribbean. If you want to go on a cruise, I would highly recomend getting a passport. This will save you any trouble that occurs while traveling outside the US border.

Getting a passport is very simple; it just costs money. Visit the US passport and Travel site:

    http://travel.state.gov/passport/passpor...

This website will give you all the necessary information on getting a passport. As of right now, the demand for passports is up, so make sure you give yourself at least two months before booking a cruise. Just to ensure you receive your passport in time.

  2. bring your valid passport and your green card and US identification card.  that's all.

  3. for some islands you need a passport - you might as well get one because it's good to have

  4. Most of the islands will accept your green card as long as you have an onward bound ticket (in this case your cruise ticket). For example, in the Bahamas a visa is not required for a max. stay of 30 days, provided you are holding a Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card.  However, I would double check with your travel agent before you actually purchase your ticket.
