Patrick Marleau responds to criticism
Whether it is the Olympic stage or the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Patrick Marleau, is becoming used to facing criticism for his performances.
His performances were absolutely dry in the second round of the playoffs where he was unable to score a single point in the first six games against the Detroit Red Wings. This led to a lot of criticism against the player and one former teammate also called
him “gutless”.
Marleau, is currently 31-years old and says that he keeps all the negative feed-back in mind but doesn’t let this affect him.
"You just put that out of your mind and worry about what I can control on the ice and my focus for the game – help out my teammates", he said after the Sharks held an optional skate at Rogers Arena. "I'm not really concerned with what (Roenick) says – I
just try to control what I can control".
However, after the comments given by his former teammate, he was able to come up with a sparkling game winning goal in the seventh game and also scored the Sharks second goal in the game against the Vancouver Canucks.
Marleau says that he has come across a lot of criticism throughout his 13 year career and now it doesn’t have the same effect as it did in the early stages of his career.
The player added that his family, friends and fans are still supporting him and they are more important to him, and, every decent performance he bags is for them, not for the critics. Marleau’s teammates also believe in him and say that he is one player
who can surely turn a game around.
"It's tough, but at the same time, I know the type of person Patrick is, he doesn't let any of that affect him. He comes into the rink he goes about his business every day, he works hard, he's a great leader and a great teammate", said rookie forward, Logan
Couture.
Coach, Todd McLellan, hopes that two consecutive goals in two games can help him regain confidence and help him bag the performances that he is capable of.
