Pay toilets in NYC question?

Has anyone used the pay toilets in New York City? Why should you have to pay to use the restroom? I feel they are small and cramped without much privacy and I hate the way they just go ring, ring, ring after you drop your quarter in the pay slot.

Pay toilets are a blatant violation of human rights in my opinion. Bathrooms are not a privilege, they are a right. They mean to tell us that if someone has no spare change or seems to have forgotten thier purse at home, they're going to have to wet themselves and face humiliation because the city has no other creative ways to generate money?

When you gotta go, you gotta go, and if its a choice between having an accident and going to a pay toilet, I'd say the cost is worth it.

I would say they are better than nothing. Department stores and hotel lobbies have restrooms that you can use if you would rather not use the pay ones.  But that is true anywhere.
