Paying companies ?

Hello, I was wondering how companies take money from your bank account. Let's for internet, or cellphone or phone bills. Do they get your bank number and ask your premission to take out the money? And if so, does the bank automatically every month put the money in the companies account?

You usually use your credit/debit card, you either stick it in a machine at the company and it takes money from your account and sticks it in theres, or you give them your card details, and they process it through online means such as paypal. And then of course you can always write a check, which takes money from your account and puts it in theres only when they pay it in
