Question:

Paying my mortgage late?

i was very very short on money this month and did not have all the money right away to pay my mortgage. I FINALLY came up with all the money today and went online to pay it and it said it will not post to my mortgage account until the 29th. Thats a very close call because one more day and it woulda have been 30 days late and be reported to my credit. Do ALL companies only report if it is 30 days past due or is it possible they may report at 29 days past due? It is Washington Mutual

  1. On any installment (usually a mortgage or car loan)or revolving account (credit cards) to be considered as late it must be 30 days past the due date. If they don't receive a payment by the 29th day then they would be able to say you missed a payment.

  2. If they say it will post on the 29th, you're still under 30 days.  It's best to mail in the payment before the due date because you are charged add'l interest every day past your due date, it's called per-diem

  3. 30 days
