Question:

Peacock feather bouquets?

So here's the deal...

My best friend is getting married in 3 weeks. I am in the wedding. Her budget is tight and I mean TIGHT! Flowers were kind of a worry for her since she knew it would be hard to afford them. She told me today that she thought about using feathers in the bouquets instead of flowers. I think its a little crazy but its her wedding so whatever she wants, she gets. My question is, has anyone ever seen a peacock feather bouquet (I think other feathers would be fine as well)? I found a few on-line that incorporated very minimal flowers which I think is doable but does anyone have any ideas as to how to go about this? Thanks!

  1. Disgusting, unless the feathers can be proven to be gathered via molting.

Why not just do a single flower bouquet?  It's elegant and classy!  And very very inexpensive.  She can buy the plain flowers at Costco for like $12.99!

  2. I have to be honest.  I have never heard of using feathers in a bouquet before.  But, with an open mind, I started searching and found a few sites that might help you.  They are quite lovely.

  3. Yes, I have, and it was very beautiful. Brides and grooms can be as offbeat as they choose. I think traditional wedings are rather boring anyway. A friend of mine had a lollipop "bouquet."

  4. Places like Sams Club and Wal Mart and places like that have very affordable flowers. If I were her I would go and get a couple nice bouquets of flowers from there the day the before, and she could still use the feathers. All you would need is the flowers, feathers, floral tape and some ribbon that matches her colors. Arrange the flowers and feathers in a way that she likes, the wrap with the tape to keep it in place and then wrap with the ribbon and refrigerate them over night to make sure that they stay fresh. Good Luck.

  5. I saw some peacock feather bouquets on offbeatbride.com.  They were gorgeous!  I would definitely use them - but you have to have the right type of dress to carry it off.  If she has a very traditional dress, then she probably needs to stick with flowers.

Here, our grocery stores sell alstromerias (peruvian lillies) for 3 bunches for 10.00, and that would be plenty to tie together for a bouquet.  They come in white, light pink, hot pink, yellow, orange and red.  She could look into something like that.

But if she is wanting the peacock feathers, I say go for it!

  6. yes but they are ugly. Very "pimpish" if you ask me.

  7. I don't know how that is going to look. I've seen the peacock feathers used for centerpieces, but not for bouquets.

If she is trying to save money she can do the bouquets herself. She can get some gerbera daisies at the store (they are around $4.00 for a bouquet) and then just wrap them in some nice ribbon. Grocery stores will also do bouquets as well if she wants to check out the prices.

Another idea is to have the bridesmaids carry candles instead of bouquets. I've seen that done before. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1100/1045...

Or, you can go to a craft store and get some of those crystal sprays - they are really cheap; wrap them in ribbon, like this:

There are plenty of alternatives that she can use. I suggest that she tries to put together just one bouquet first and see how it works. She may or may not like the way it turns out.

    Good luck!
