Pediasure for a 15 month old?

My 15 month old son is going through a phase of not wanting to eat during the day and is only eating at dinner. I want to make sure that he is getting all the nutrients he needs so I thought about giving him pediasure. Is he old enough and is it ok for him to have it during the day?

At 15 months, you could still have him on a follow up next step toddler formula.  It does not taste as good as the pediasure so you do not have to worry about him not eating real foods.  My second daughter's pediatrician advised me to keep her on formula for two years because of a milk allergy, but also because she was small only in the tenth percentile.  There is no harm at all in keeping him on formula for one more year.

As others mentioned Pediasure can be quite pricey... there are store brands at WalMart, Supermarkets, and pharmacies.  I tried Carnation Instant Breakfast with my daughter and she liked it.  It is filled with vitamins and nutrients and is much cheaper than Pediasure.

No need to worry. Pediaure is great, but is pricey $$$. Instant Ovalutine, or Carnation Breakfast is great also!

The container should have directions on it to tell you if you can or can not give it to him. My son is 14 years now and he went through that stage also. pediasure wasn't invented then, so it was a battle every meal. I soon learned to let him eat what ever he would, just so he would have some food in him.(ie...ice cream, Cheetos,lucky charms, anything) and he has turned out to be a very healthy eater to this day. He Loves veggies.Everyone told me he would never learn to eat right if I didn't make him eat a properly balanced meal, but HA! HA! they were wrong. Go with your gut, and what the package directions say. He'll eat good soon. Good Luck and don't listen to people who mean well, they don't know your son like you do.

My sons pediatrician suggested pediasure when my son whose 16 months old now was refusing food (at that time he was 14 months old). The pediasure website also says that it for babies/kids from ages 1-13 and not for babies below one. Since your son is 15 months old, I think it would be ok. it's okay, but probably not necessary (plus it's pricy--I have a friend who did what you're contemplating and then was very sorry, because then it was ALL the kid would have-no food or anything else, because it tasted like a milkshake to them, and it's expensive!)  All toddlers go through stages where it seems they don't eat much, but when they get hungry, they EAT.   Around this age, growth rate starts to slow a bit, so they just need a little less food.  My best advice is to offer food throughout the day, but let his appetite be the guide.  Good luck!
