Peeing in the crate?

I put my dog in his crate during the day while at work and come home half way through the day to let him out for a break. He is 4 months old and has been house trained for a good month now. He sleeps good during the night from 10-6:30am on his own dog bed ( not in crate) without having to go out to pee. He fathfully everyday pee's in his crate. Why and how do i resolve this problem?

Thanks

  1. maybe he is trying to mark his scent in there or maybe he just has seperation anxiety and goes pee right after you leave because it wants you to come back or maybe it gets nervous in its because it hasn't really been introduced to it that often if not i would just ask your vet about it at your dog's next check up!

  2. 1) You might wanna restrict the amount of water you give him before you put her in the crate. Make sure you are take him out about 2-3 times before putting him in the crate. Dogs instinctively don't wanna go in the place they sleep i.e. the crate in this case. If and only if its physically impossible for them to hold it will they go. Please remember that it is OUR fault that they have accidents and not them.

    2) Just remain calm and clean up the mess with a GOOD cleaning agent. ( I have found 'No worries' and 'Simple Solution' to be very very good). Dogs can smell a thousand times better in smelling things and if there is any residue left they will have the urge to go in the crate.

    3) Remember to use treats and LOTS of praise as a reward everytime he goes outside. Its a very effective tool.

I also have to crate my 4 month old beagle pup and I do the same thing with my 4 month old beagle pup. She had a few accidents when she was about 2-3 months but now they are rare. Hope this helps!!

  3. The best product I have seen that will help you with this problem is called Happy Jack Dog Diapers. They work like a charm, and are very well made. Take a look at the testimonials on the website:

    http://www.BestDogDiapers.com

    They are good for:

    TERRITORIAL MARKING

    INCONTINENCE

    MEDICAL ISSUES

    EXCITABLE URINATION

    HOUSEBREAKING

  4. That happens if the crate is too large for the puppy. He should only have enough room to lie down. If there's more room than that, you will have to add something to the crate like a cardboard box to take away some space.

  5.    Maybe the crate is too big for him? I read a puppy book before (can't remember which one) that said the crate shouldn't be that much bigger than the puppy itself.

You could try getting a new crate, or try getting rid of the smell of pee (which might be the reason he keeps peeing there too).

    Hope I helped!

  6. dogs don't have to go to pee during the night when they are sleeping, but during day time, which is when dogs are awake,  dogs  gotta go when they gotta go. put a peeing pad in ur crate so that ur dog can pee and won't smear.

  7. What kind of dog?  Some breeds have issues with holding it.

You might want to take the dog to the vet.  Sometimes they can develop a urinary problem that makes it impossible for them to hold it for long periods of time.

  8. At 4-months-old, you puppy can only hold its potty for 5 hours at the most.  The bladder isn't grown until 6-months-old.  I would not expect him to hold his potty all night long this young.  I would take him potty in the middle of the night.  I would not expect a puppy this young to be potty trained, and I wouldn't let my guard down on him this soon.  Puppies are not fully potty trained until 1-year-old.  The crate should have a doggie pillow and blanket and a small food and water dish, toys and bones.  Puppies do not like to potty where they eat or sleep.  I think you need a potty trip during the middle of the night this young.
