The spoils were shared at the Bernabeu stadium as Borussia Dortmund held on to a 2-2 draw in Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid.
Real Madrid came into the game knowing that they couldn’t afford to show the same blunder they did at the Signal Iduna Park a forth night ago.
It was the visitors, Dortmund, who took the lead on the 28th minute, thanks to a goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733. Soon Real Madrid found the equalizer through a goal by their defender Pepe. And just before the first half finished,
the hosts were chasing the game again when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-Arbeloa-c5282 kicked the ball into his own goal.
Los Blancos came into the second half with strong conviction. They started pushing forward and dominated the game. Chances after chances were created but nothing was materializing for the nine time Champions League winners.
Mesut Ozil came to the rescue of Real. He converted his free-kick when the clock was on the 89th minute.
The Portuguese defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-c29670, has congratulated the German champions and praised their performance of the night. He also conceded the Bundesliga outfit gave them a tough fight.
“They are an excellent team,” Pepe told the reporters. “They like to play football, so it's been a very hard match for us.”
“The second half we dominated, but they are a very difficult group, but we just kept on working.”
“We still have Manchester City to play, so we have to believe in ourselves to win the group.”
Finally, Borussia Dortmund coach, Jurgen Klopp, was pleased with the result and how his side executed his plan for the encounter with the Spanish champions.
He believes Dortmund approached the match in a well prepared manner and thinks the outcome of the match favoured them.
“This was a good result. Our plan was to not make mistakes and have possession of the ball. We had clear ideas and played very well, especially in the second half against [Cristiano] Ronaldo on the right wing.” he explained.
Mourinho’s team now sit second in the group with seven points. They still have to face struggling Manchester City and the much reinvigorated Dutch club, Ajax.
