Question:

Peptobismal + carpet = bad combination?

My 2 dogs decided to chew the cap off of the peptobismal this afternoon. The vet said they are both ok, but my carpet is not. I have low pile, Berber carpet in a very light tan - thus making a HUGE hot pink spot in the middle of the floor. I've soaked up everything I can, but the color just isn't fading. Any suggestions?

  2. Don't ever use bleach.  It will discolor the carpet and make your stain worse. It will also make it difficult for a professional. First you need a wet dry vacuum.  A soft shoe brush.  Club Soda. White terry Cloth towels.

We use club soda because it has a neutral pH.   Does not leave a residue when it dries.

You have to extract as much of the solution spill as you can.   Pour the club soda on top of the stain and start brushing. Forward and back then left and right. You will loosen the stain from the fiber.  Use the wet dry vac to suck up the club soda.  You have a lot of it in the  backing.  Keep doing it until you see it getting lighter.  Use the white terry towels to see if there is any color transfer.   Keep going till there is no color transfer.

If the stain is gone you are done.  If not then you have a dye problem.  It is considered carpet damage and not a stain.  We have a solution called Red Alert.  It takes the large red molecule and attempts to make it colorless.  It works very well but you have to make sure the technician has had experience.

Or You could cut that piece out and if you have a more of the same carpet you could graft a piece in.

I would leave the last 2 to professionals.

  3. mix some chlorox and a slight bit of coffe to get the stain out, while still have ing the tan color

  4. Maybe you could try some Oxy clean. It is usually in the laundry section, or maybe just simple baking soda and a Little white vinegar together ..anything has got to be better than pepto pink!! Good luck let us know how it turns out!
