  1. On June 19, 2008, NASA announced that dice-sized clumps of bright material in the "Dodo-Goldilocks" trench dug by the robotic arm had vanished over the course of four days, strongly implying that they were composed of water ice which sublimated following exposure (see images below). While dry ice also sublimates, under the conditions present it would do so at a rate much faster than observed.

  2. It was said that they found it in the moon and not in Mars.

  3. They found ice (which sublimed after they dug it up) and they analyzed the dirt and found more silica in it than they had expected.  Although the scientists compared the soil they found to "the soil in your back yard," this comparison is only accurate if your back yard is a barren wasteland.  There is very little carbon and nitrogen in the soil, two elements which are important for life.

The ice they found apparently was water ice, although I'm not sure what methods they used to confirm it was h2o and not co2.

  4. it was silica and not ice

  5. it WAS ice.
