  1. Phosphorus is an element.  So it's pure.

Some organisms excrete phosphorus.  It's found in peat.

In society?  Well, it's used in fertilizers, safety matches, water treatment, and some toothpastes and shampoos.

  2. Today, the annual global production of phosphate is around some 40 million tonnes of P2O5, derived from roughly 140 million tons of rock concentrate. Overall, mineral fertilisers account for approximately 80% of phosphates used worldwide with the balance divided between detergents (12%), animal feeds (5%) and speciality applications (3%), for example, food grade, metal treatment etc.
