Photography project help?

I am starting college in September and my photography teacher has given an assignment on 'My house/street' to do over the summer, but I am really stuck for unique and interesting ideas.

I have already tried taking pictures from different angles and viewpoint's but I want my photos to be creative and fun.

Do you have any ideas or tips I could use?

try climbing a ladder and stand on your roof. Then take a birds eye view picture of you street I think that would look really cool.

Photograph each front door and make a longitudinal collage.

Get down really low and photograph the gutters, together with their contents! (I mean, point the camera along the gutter, not straight down at it)

When your stuck for creativity it means usually you haven't got enough research, go on to yahoo flickr there's loads that can inspire you on there.

You could make a pinhole camera with a 90 degree field of view and set it up so it takes a picture of the street directly below it all the way to the horizon.

If you make a pinhole camera, I would sugest you make it to use 10X8 inch graded B+W paper, as working on that scale is much easier, working with film can be a pain unless you have a proper darkroom set up, and with film sealing the camera from light is much harder.

For creative images, try something like taking a pic of the front door at a 45 degree angle, don't have too much surrounding brickwork.

A shot of the postman delivering mail.

Take a general shot of the house with some flowers / foliage in one corner but focus on the house so that the plants are blurred, then do the same the other way round so that the house is blurred but the plants are in focus.

things like that.

Take photos of a streetview over 24 hours. The sun setting, mid day, sunrise etc. With luck, you may get dramatic weather changes also.

I'm thinking that your professor would be thrilled to see a photo or a series of photos that capture the essence of your street. I'm almost positive that he or she is going to ask you to explain what you're trying to say through your images.

Great photos convey meaning, emotion, symbolism. Sit down and think about your street. What does it mean to you? What does it symbolize? What about it makes you happy or sad? Once you arrive at this essence, then you must think about how you are going to convey it in one image or a series of images.

Notice that you haven't even picked up your camera yet.

When you do start taking pictures, analyze them for how they fulfill your goals. Throw out any that don't, even if they're great shots (save these for another time and project). For the promising ones, go out and shoot them again.

Once you've worked through the creative stuff, make sure the images that you turn in are technically perfect.
