In fl, if I take a number (example no. 9) and want to cover all combinations , on the combo bet both 3way and 6 way how may bets are needed?

There are 55 of them:

1 ....... triple (999)

18 .... 3-way

36......6-way

If you play them for $1 each, you'll spend

$1 + 18x$3  + 36x$6  = $271

and if you win you'll profit $500 - $ 271 = $229

to make more sence of the previous answer,

you will need to make 271 bets to cover all the bets with a 9 in it (for a staight wager) but only 55 if you box them,

if a 9 appears in the pick 3, you would win, obviously more if you bet them straight,

Also, the 3-way box, means your # appears twice, so you get more # if you bet BOX
