  1. There are some good answers here in between the nonsense.

I'll just add my usual advice. Call around to airports around you and see if there are any flying clubs. Clubs that own their own aircraft  that you can join will usually save you substantially over an FBO (fixed base operator, an airport store/flight school). Many also have instructors.

  2. Um, try checking my source.  I got it on Wikipedia.  Check it out.

  3. Approx $20,000 US

  4. It depends on if you have access to a plane to take lessons on.  Plane rentals are expensive, then you have to pay for the instructor fee for your flight lessons, not to mention ground school.

If you know someone who will let you use their plane, then you just have to pay for fuel and the instructors time in the plane with you.  You will still have to pay for ground school and/or textbooks however.

Instructors are about $30-50 for an hour, planes are about $80-100 for an hour on top of that (if you don't have free access to a plane).  Textbooks and other study materials are about $150-200.

  5. It's cheaper if you only learn flying and skip the landing part.

  6. 8000.00 in 2003...   now with gas prices quite a bit more.

  7. Around 6 G's

  8. About $6,000 to $9,000 for the Private ASEL Certificate.

    (Airplane, single-engine, land.)

It has gone up $1,000 in the last six months, and will continue to rise until after the election.

  9. You will need a minimum of 40 hours flying a plane.  At about $100 an hour wet, fuel included; you are at $4,000.  You also need to pay an instructor about 50 big ones an hour for 20 hours for another $1,000.  Ground school, books, and equipment another $1,500!  Increases in your health and life insurance rates, paying for the FAA test and check flight, it all adds up!  That is for your private license...If you want a commercial, on a single engine airframe it is double that!

  10. The Price can vary based on a lot of variables.

First - the airplane rentals. typically between $70 and $100 wet (price included fuel)  for a training plane.

Second- how much your instructor charges per hour.

Third - is how many lessons you take per week.

** The closer the lessons are together the less time you have review about the last one and more time learning new material.

Fourth - The monthly dues if you decide to join a flight club. I recommended it. You are put on the clubs insurance policy and they give a discount on their planes.

The last factor is how much flight time you need to pass you exams. The FAA requires 40 for Part 61 and 35 for Part 141, However the average hours logged is around 60

The average cost is between 6,100  and 10,000. But I have seen it up to 20,000

Don't try and do it the cheap way. It is better to pay a little more money and get a good instructor

  11. It depends on where you live, what they have for rental aircraft, and what type.

In my location private for fixed wing is 8,000-10,000, for rotory it is 13,000-15,000.

  12. my son is working on his.  it will end up being between $8000-10,000 U.S.

  13. to get licensed with Visual Flight Rules only, (the lowest class) that will take at least 40 hours.  Whatever it costs you to fly per hour (this includes renting the plane, paying for gas, etc) take that number and multiply times 40.  Plus you have to pay for the test which includes a licensed pilot sitting co-pilot and observing you taking off, reading directions, computing landing vector/coordinates and landing.  if you want to get certified with Instrument Flight Rules that takes another 40 hours of IFR flying plus approx 10 on the ground lessons.

  14. I've only seen one here with correct info -

    You can't get a 'Pilot's License' - It's a CERTIFICATE. I have one....

About $6K for Private, another $6K for Instrument, another $10k to $15k for Commercial, last time I looked..

  15. It costs a lot of money to get a pilots license. It costs thousands of dollars for lessons, the rental of the plane, the fuel for the plane, and depending on the type of license you want (private, commercial) the price increases. You also will have to go to ground school. If you decide to go to a professional flight school, it is even more expensive. If you want a commercial pilots license, you might as well join the air force to get your experience and hours.
