Pirelli expects more challenging Sepang race
Recent reports have revealed that after a successful grand prix in Australia, Italian tyre supplier, Pirelli, expected a more challenging race in Malaysia.
Pirelli admitted that they are actually worried about its rubber, which could be too conservative for Sepang’s racy temperature.
Currently, the weather conditions in Malaysia are unclear, while the Formula 1 drivers end their second part of practice session, successfully at the Sepang circuit.
The motorsport director, Paul Hembery, said, "One of our worries is that the new range we are working on may well be too conservative. While it was quite fun seeing Sergio Perez do a one-stop in Australia, when you actually think about it, you know that
the people who are trying to do a two-stop are now trying to work out how he did a one-stop”.
He highly appreciated the Perez performance in Australia, as he surprised F1 members by taking only a single stop during the whole race. He went on to say, "The degradation level, it is linear with wear rates. So, like a road car, you don't want to be doing
donuts. It is trying to preserve that, not getting down too aggressively on corner exit, not locking up under braking, that is the style”.
Pirelli mainly focused on the initial laps of any race and said, if a driver does not go on a maximum attack for his first few laps, it means that has a good effect on the tyres durability.
On the other hand, Pirelli added a golden stripe to the side walls of the soft tyres, and, helped make it easier for Formula 1 fans to see, which Pirelli compounds drivers are using in the race.
With regards to the Friday free practice session, Red Bull’s Mark Webber was at the top place in the opening practice session and stays on the first in second part of the session, in Malaysia.
After the successful practice session of the season’s second race, the teams are ready for the Malaysian qualifying session that will take place on Saturday at the Sepang circuit.
